Toledo and La Mancha

19—27 March 2026

Drive Espana has been running Spanish driving tours for discerning drivers since 2004. Clients love the combination of empty roads, great driving and views and superb hotels—not to mention great company. It’s Jasper Gilder’s company and he’s been an owner since 2002 so it seemed a good idea to do a driving adventure which starts and finishes at La Manga Club. We did our first trip last year and it was very well received so we’re doing another—to other places
We go before Easter when Spring is here, the blossom and spring flowers everywhere and the baking heat of summer a few months off. We are going to visit some of the great cities and historic sites of Spain; Toledo with its Alcazar and Cathedral, Salamanca which many say is just perfect. Guadalupe where they built gates to keep the pilgrims out! Jaen built on a spine of rock overlooking the city and armies of olive trees and lovely little Almagro

Thur 19 March Dinner at La Manga Club Owners Clubhouse—getting to know you session and distribution of roadbooks, maps and route details
Fri 20 March Leave La Manga and drive via Murcia and Valdepenas to Almagro, a charming Parador built in an old convent, with 230 easy miles to get there it’s a peaceful place but only five minutes walk from the bustling town centre
Sat 21 March It’s a little under 100 miles to Toledo. We have two nights in the Parador which has spectacular views over the city. Take a cab to Zocodover Plaza and start to explore—there’s a lot to see!
Sun 22 March Free day in Toledo—visit the Cathedral which has the first gold from the New World, go to the ElGreco museum. Toledo is world renowned for metal work so look at the kitchen knives. Go to the Alcazar and the Museum and find Moscado’s office or shop and lunch
Mon 23 March Drive 160 miles past the wonderful walled city of Avila to Valverdon, Just 10 miles from Salamanca this amazing stop is a restored Dominican Monastery. Christopher Columbus stayed here twice whilst setting up his expedition, they also produce great wine
Tues 24 March A free day to go into Salamanca, visit the most architecturally perfect Plaza Mayor in Spain, visit one of the two Cathedrals, go to the Art Nouveau/Deco museum—or the motor museum with it’s great collection. There are shops, bars and restaurants as well
Wed 25 March Time to head south to Guadalupe, 165 miles and the last bit one of the best driving roads in Spain. Guadalupe is second only to Santiago de Compostella for pilgrimage and the little pueblo is dominated by a huge monastery. We’re in a convent over the road
Thur 26 March It’s 200 miles to break our journey at the Parador at Jaen—helicoptor views of the city with your feet on the ground—we stayed there last year asnd it was so good…
Fri 27 March Leave Jaen—head for Lorca– Cartagena and La Manga Club—230 miles and home!
