Ferrari Pyrenees Party
20 May—1 June 2026

On the Sporting Tour of Spain in 2025 we discussed a different approach, with some great driving, of course, but shorter distances so there was more time for fun. So in 2026 we’re going to the Pyrenees and then for a couple of nights at Superdeportivos Cantabra—Spain’s biggest Supercar Party which our partners at Drive Espana have been supporting for over ten years
We start with the Plymouth to Santander Ferry, saving a whole night compared to a Portsmouth crossing and on arrival we head to San Sebastian—on the coast with the Pyrenees just behind. We have a hill top hotel which used to be a casino, with just the best sea views. We’re doing this two night stop bed and breakfast as San Sebastian is famous for its Pinxto (large tapas) bars and they’re a real experience. The restaurants are all superb and the whole city feels like it’s having a party, so we’ll be joining in.
Next we head into the foothills of the Pyrenees for a night at Sos del Rey Catolico in Aragon. A lovely spot, great food and views and a challenge—what is the connection with Berkhamsted?
After sleepy Sos we go high into the Pyrenees to Vielha which is a summit hotel. The road up there has a myriad of tunnels and the Vielha tunnel is several kilometres long. Emerge and it’s a short run to the hotel with great views up the Aran valley to France, there may even be some snow left on the tops.
Next we head East to Cardona to stay in a proper hilltop fastness, with a second Century tower amongst other fortifications. We are there for two nights and with not much effort it should be possible to visit Barcelona or Andorra
Next it’s the amazing restored railway station at Canfranc. Here trains from France stopped and passengers changed onto Spanish trains. It was a centre of spying and intrigue in WW2 but closed and fell into disrepair in the ‘70’s. No more! It’s an amazing restoration. Half of it is in France and half in Spain, it’s really spectacular so two nights here
With a flourish we then go to Santander for the real party—two nights in a strategically chosen hotel and on Friday night a Black Tie(ish) dinner at the Palacio de la Magdalena. On Saturday a car show and drive out past our hotel before lunch at a seafood restaurant walking distance away. In the evening there is dinner and dancing; on Sunday we get the ferry home to recover!
| Wed 20 May | Afternoon departure from Plymouth on Brittany Ferries |
| Thurs 21 May | Arrive in Santander and then drive 125 miles along the coast to Hotel Monte Igueldo in San Sebastian. Great views, a quick cab ride into town and a two night stop to explore the city, visit the Pinxto bars, or just chill—it’s lovely |
| Sat 23 May | Drive 90 miles to Sos del Rey Catolico in the foothills of the Pyrenees, maybe stop for lunch in Pamplona and see if you can find the bronze of Hemingway |
| Sun 24 May | A great day’s driving up to Vielha—it’s 195 intoxicating miles with the scenery getting better and better, tunnels, torrents, snow capped mountains and at journey’s end a long tunnel and a great Parador |
| Mon 25 May | It’s 130 wonderful miles along the Pyrenees to the hilltop fort at Cardona. A really spectacular stop and, with two nights, a jumping off point for Barcelona (55 miles) or Andorra (90 miles). Or just explore the town. |
| Wed 27 May | It’s 215 miles to Canfranc, but worth it. The restoration of the site has been superb and as we have two nights, a drive out to Pau (less than 60 miles) is possible, or, if you missed Pamplona—it’s 85 miles |
| Fri 29 May | It’s 240 miles to Santander—but good time can be made and we have two nights in the Hotel Santemar in the Sardinero and close to the Casino. On Friday night there is a formal dinner at the Palacio de la Magdalena—not to be missed (The hotel has an underground car park with very gentle slopes) |
| Sat 30 May | The day will start with a car show at the Parque de Las Llamas, about two miles away. There should be about 150 cars there and we will join them for a parade until we go past our hotel where we dive in and park and walk to Restaurant MarMondo for a super seafood lunch. In the evening there will be dinner and dancing–in all probability at the Casino which is even closer than MarMondo |
| Sun 31 May | We catch the lunchtime ferry from Santander to Portsmouth and arrive in Portsmouth mid afternoon on Monday 1 June |
