Segovia and the East
A La Manga Club driving adventure 12—21 March 2027
Drive Espana has been running Spanish driving tours for discerning drivers since 2004, with over 120 completed. Clients love the combination of empty roads, great driving and views and superb hotels—not to mention great company. It’s Jasper Gilder’s company and he’s been an owner since 2002 so it seemed a good idea to do driving adventures which start and finish at La Manga Club. We’ve done trips in the last two years so we’re going again—on a different route
We go before Easter when Spring is here, the blossom and spring flowers everywhere and the baking heat of summer a few months off. We have a night in a boutique 14 room hotel, two nights at stunning Segovia, a night in a Castle at Siguenza, one at Cuenca with it’s ‘hanging houses’ and a night at Teruel before two nights at El Saler so you can get some golf in on their championship course.
| Fri 12 March | Dinner at La Manga Club Owners Clubhouse—getting to know you session and distribution of roadbooks, maps and route details |
| Sat 13 March | Leave La Manga and drive via Murcia and Albacete to Alacon, a tiny hill top Parador with only 14 rooms, and they’re holding 12 for us – when they’re gone they’re gone! The Hotel is one of the best preserved castles in the province of Cuenca |
| Sun 14 March | Skirting Madrid we go to Segovia for two nights. The city is dominated by the Roman Aquaduct, the Cathedral and the Alcazar which inspired Walt Disney. It has one of the oldest restaurants in Spain and – weather permitting, there is a ski resort within 20 miles |
| Mon 15 March | Free day in Segovia, visit the city, see the Cathedral and Alcazar, have lunch, or go visiting. Within easy reach is El Escorial, Phillip II’s huge palace/monastery as well as the Valley of the Fallen—Franco’s tribute to his soldiers who perished in the Civil War |
| Tues 16 March | It’s just over 100 miles to Siguenza – a C12 Fortress built on the remains of an Arab Citadel. Recently refurbished, visitors love its sense of history with towers and crenellations. Standing at the highest point in town, it is an impressive sight. |
| Wed 17 March | We head for Cuenca to stay in the Parador next to the gorge and the Casas Colgadas, the hanging houses—one of which is home to a great modern art collection. The hotel was a C16th Convent and it’s a lovely stop again after just over 100 miles |
| Thus 18 March | We’re going to Teruel, the centre for Mudejar art in Spain. Heading East we enter Aragorn and Teruel has much more recent history |
| Fri 19 March | From Teruel it’s 90 miles to El Saler where we have our last two nights. There is a golf course attached to the Parador, so book your round as you book this. Valencia is very close and the very best place for a Paella |
| Sun 21 March | Leave El Saler, head for Elche and it’s 175 miles back to the Club |
