52 supercars and the Pyrenees

17-29 September 2024

The Rioja in September is a hive of activity. The harvest is being bought in, winemakers are checking the grapes every day, there are tractors and trailers everywhere and grapes being harvested everywhere you look it seems. Our trip links to this and the Spanish Supercar Drivers Club for a relaxed few days enjoying the best of North East Spain. 52Supercars is a laid back event and the mileages mean that those who don’t want to pile on the milesdon’t have to—it’s about 800 miles in all. There will be very good food and drink and a visit to Marques de Riscal is always a highlight. The architect Frank Geary only did three buildings in Spain, this is one and the Guggenheim in Bilbao is one of the others. Two nights in Pamplona, the frenzy of the bull runs will be a memory, but there is much to see as the city is the gateway to Spain from France and it is full of history. You might even be able to get a drink with Ernest Hemingway. Canfranc! Derelict for years and now phoenix-like one of the smartest places to stay in the Pyrenees. Sos del Rey Catolico is a wonderful stop with panoramic views of the Pyrenees and Limpias is a cosy spot, ideal for a party and close enough to the ferry to dispel anxiety.
