Aston Martin and the Spanish Alonso Trail

Fernando Alonso’s move to Aston Martin has seen a resurgence in his career, so this gives us an opportunity for a tour to Spain with the usual Drive Espana great driving and scenery, but also the opportunity to visit the Fernando Alonso Museum in Oviedo as well as the Salamanca museum which also houses one of his previous cars. We’ll be stopping at an impressive C8th Monastery at Cangas de Onis and a wonderful valley hotel at Santo Estevo—also an ex monastery, but younger. We then have two nights just outside Salamanca at Hacienda Zorita, visited a number of times by Christopher Columbus. They produce excellent wines and their tasting (included) is very good. We finish with two nights at the tranquility of Fuente de, high in the Picos de Europa and right next to the cablecar to the summit. Dinner bed and breakfast are included at all hotels.

| Thur 27 June | Arrive in Santander and drive 85 miles to Cangas de Onis for two nights in the stunning Parador |
| Fri 28 June | Drive 43 miles to Oviedo to visit the Fernando Alonso museum which houses examples of virtually every race car he has ever driven. It is a very good visit and a homage to Oviedo’s favourite son |
| Sat 29 June | Drive 190 miles through the Picos de Europa and into Galicia to the wonderful Santo Estevo– set at the confluence of two rivers it is a lovely tranquil spot |
| Sun 30 June | Drive 210 miles skirting the border with Portugal to Valverdon just outside Salamanca to stay at Hacienda Zorita—a very special stop |
| Mon 1 July | Visit to the Salamanca Motor Museum – if we go round the museum they will let us park outside the museum for much of the day and it’s a short walk to the ancient centre. Salamanca is one of Spain’s most beautiful cities |
| Tues 2 July | Drive 210 miles via Leon to Fuente de over a stunning mountain pass as we enter Cantabria. We have two nights at the Parador to allow relaxing, or a run into nearby Potes for shopping, exploring and lunch |
| Thurs 4 July | Drive 115 miles to Bilbao for lunchtime departure on Brittany Ferries Santona |
| Fri 5 July | Afternoon arrival at Portsmouth |
